Promoting Safe Choices During Homecoming Season

ESCWR’s Student Wellness and Prevention Services team, representing the Rise Above: Lake and Geauga Drug Free Communities Coalition, recently visited Mentor High School and Lake Catholic High School to share important prevention messages with students during homecoming season. At Mentor High School, the team joined the Lake County Safe Communities Coalition as part of the school’s Homecoming Blitz festivities.

Through interactive activities, hands-on games, educational materials, and giveaways, students explored the risks associated with impaired and distracted driving. Students also experienced simulated impairment while navigating pedal karts, playing basketball, and completing other activities while wearing impairment goggles.

These engaging experiences reinforced an important message: making memories also means making safe choices. Students were reminded to buckle up, put their phones down, never drive impaired, and always plan for a safe ride home.

Thank you to Mentor High School and Lake Catholic High School for welcoming the team and helping students understand that safe decision-making matters during homecoming—and every time they get behind the wheel.
