Lake County School Financing District Renewal Levy Information - Renewal Levy not a Tax Increase
October 10, 2024—Concord Twp, OH—The Lake County School Financing District Renewal Levy will appear on the November 5, 2024, General Election ballot. This is a renewal levy, not a tax increase.

The Lake County Financing District comprises the Madison, Painesville City, Perry, and
Riverside Local School Districts and the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve is the taxing authority that collects and distributes the funds based on the agreed formula. The member districts created the financing district in 1990 to levy taxes to provide specific educational programs and services for districts that are part of the financing district. The funds are used for personnel, materials, supplies, and transportation for instruction in language arts, social studies, mathematics, fine and practical arts, health and physical education, science, and business education.

This is a five-year renewal of a 4.9-mill levy initially approved in 1990 and renewed in 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. The current effective rate for residential taxpayers is approximately 1.93 mills, costing a residential taxpayer roughly $59.02 per year per year per $100,000 of valuation.

WHAT IS SUMMER SIDEKICKS?
ESCWR Summer Sidekicks is a FREE summer learning program that provides grade 1-5 students with review and enrichment in the month of June to prevent the summer slide. ESCWR Summer Sidekicks has fun session themes to keep students interested and engaged!  The program is summer camp style and has stations that students rotate through.  Stations consist of Mathematics, English Language Arts/Reading, Science, Arts, Physical Recreation time and more to provide students with a well balanced program.  Reverse field trips and community partners are brought in to provide fun and meaningful activities and lessons.

HISTORY OF ESCWR SUMMER SIDEKICKS
The program debuted in Lake County in the summer of 2021 and focused on remediating unfinished learning and integrated student supports to offset the COVID-19 pandemic challenges for young people via pandemic relief dollars.  The program expanded to Geauga County in the 21-22 school year to Berkshire Local, and then in the 22-23 school year ESCWR Summer Sidekicks program again expanded in Geauga to Cardinal Local Schools.

NEW!  ESCWR Summer Sidekicks is being funded via Martha Holden Jennings Foundation and Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OHMAS) grant support.  With this partnership ESC of the Western Reserve is able to keep programming at no cost to students and families.
